Dr Waryah is a junior postdoctoral research fellow with expertise in cancer biology, microbiology and epigenetics. She obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences in August 2015 from Curtin University, Perth. After her PhD award, Dr Waryah worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, NYC under the guidance of Prof Leonard Augenlicht, Associate Director of the Cancer Center at AECOM. Dr Waryah returned to Western Australia for a postdoctoral fellowship under the guidance of Associate Prof Pilar Blancafort. Dr Waryah currently leads CRISPR epigenetic editing projects within the Cancer Epigenetics laboratory and focuses on molecular therapeutics. This position has implemented her keen interest in developing functionalized novel molecular approaches to understand how cells behave and develop novel epigenome engineering tools to ultimately reprogram them to a more normal like state. Dr Waryah was invited to present her data at the Australian Epigenetics Conference 2017, Brisbane and FASEB Genome Engineering: Cutting-Edge Research and Applications 2018, Florence Italy, where she was a Finalist in the Young Investigator Award Category and Winner of a Travel Award under the Young Investigator Category, respectively. In addition to her research, Dr Waryah has been heavily involved in EpiCRISPR projects targeting liver cancer, glioblastoma and inducing anti-tumour immune therapy responses in breast cancer. Dr Waryah will use her epigenome engineering tools to explore the field of PWS epigenetics and genetic therapy for PWS patients.
